“The doer alone learneth.” – Nietzche

Overthinking is a real problem. Western philosophy and culture, unrooted from faith, tradition, and mystery, has ended in first an over rationalization, and then logically, nihilism.

Overthinking, over questioning, being overly skeptical, the dialectic of “progress” – these are all common things we struggle with.

They’re a dead end.

In ancient times, depression, anxiety, stress, these weren’t even words. Sadness existed but these inner turmoil psychological phenomena related to “mental health” did not.

We too often overthink it. This innerness and self-focus is exhausting. The ego can only handle so much. That’s why we feel so happy when we’re losing ourselves so to speak, through music or a ballgame, through worship, intense but rewarding work, anything that gets us focused on something other than ourselves.

It’s ok to think, good to think.

Contemplate.

But then take action. There’s joy in action.
